Bethany + Derek: Married in a Winter Wonderland

December 21, 2009

To me, Derek was like a child on Christmas.  With a huge smile he was counting down the minutes until the ceremony was to start.  He recounted later that it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen when Bethany came to him down the isle of the church. And I don’t doubt him for a moment as he mentioned time and again throughout the day how beautiful she was and often looked at his wedding band while saying the word husband… just to hear it the words come out of his mouth.

Bethany was calm and cool throughout every part of the day.  She was also as beautiful as Derek perceived her to be.  I can only imagine that marrying a military man is more than taking on the normal married life, especially since Derek begins training right away and will be heading to Afghanistan in 2010.  If the way Bethany handled her wedding day is the way she lives her life  she will make a great companion to Derek as he begins the next big steps in his life. Now Derek just has to decide what photo he will carry in his pocket!

This girl likes her heels! Aren’t they beautiful! She later donned her winter boots for the snow, which were also six inch heels!

This is Bethany’s grandfather before the wedding reading the morning paper.

This next photo is by Lori Moss. She came along and helped me out throughout the day.

A man and his best friend. The portrait of Missy is mine and the portrait of Derek is by Lori.

If you saw my previous post with me and my winter boots this next image is the one I was taking at the time.
Two minutes on the Signal Hill was just enough time to capture this image of ‘home’ without getting frostbite.  Bethany again was brave, calm and very collected!

Derek intently watches his bride as she gives her thank yous. Thanks Lori for this photo.

I can’t decide on a favorite of the day. But I do love this next one of Derek dancing with his mom.

Congrats Bethany and Derek! I know your New Year is going to be full of excitement and new things. Thanks for having me photograph your amazing winter wonderland wedding day!

Merry Christmas!
