Candace & Blair – Part 1

In the Sunshine

Yup, you guessed it, my favorite assistant got married. I was a bridesmaid and a photographer but this time was very different from when I first did both roles for a friend. (another wedding story tells of a time when I was a bridesmaid, photographer and mother to be) Candace knew how tough it was for me to have both roles and wanted me to enjoy the day almost as much as her. What an angel! And I did enjoy it almost as much as her.

Candace and I had been together through thick and thin, every kind of wedding we could think of! She learned from all of the weddings and did hers differently…almost perfectly. It simply went like this. I photographed the couple in the morning; yes they did see each other before the ceremony but it worked out really well. Another photographer photographed the ceremony, family and wedding party. I got to do the best part, the couple. And the rest of the day I relaxed and enjoyed everything.

In the morning, the three of us drove around the city (Vancouver) to various locations they had already scouted. We were free to be creative and, in a spirit of reminiscing, we had a lot of fun. I’ve never been so relaxed while shooting a couple.

Their wedding took place on a weekday and in the evening. The location was his parents humongous backyard, by a stream. It was only normal that the parents of the groom were a little stressed since they were hosting. What wedding goes off stress free? Not one. If the bride and groom aren’t stressed the parents are and if the parents are also easy going there are sure to be a few guests not overly happy with the events of the day.

Take Away Advice for the Bride:
No wedding is perfect in detail but all weddings are perfect in that they join together two loves! That’s what you always have to remember. Many people have to work together to make a wedding day happen. Everyone should be able to sit back and enjoy the love that is being united.

Take Away Advice for the Photograper:
Never be a part of the wedding party and shoot the entire wedding at the same time. Some photographers find it hard to have a good time when another photographer is working. After doing this twice my advice is just take one job, whichever will make you more relaxed.

For me, the wedding of Candace and Blair was a perfect day.
