Here’s a continuation from yesterday. I love the colors in this collage. It becomes very abstract as you look at the entire image. But get a little closer and study each image… you might find yourself walking the street and wondering what’s around the corner.

I know this may not be the most original photo ever, but I love it. When we first moved to St. John’s, NL I wanted my husband to see the cliffs. I didn’t know the cliffs of Bell Island had ever existed (though I did spend my first 18 years in Newfoundland). What a site to behold! If you have never been to Bell Island put all plans on hold and go! It’s amazing but I’m sure better viewed in the warm summer months. The thought of living out there right now chills me to the bones.

When I took this photo it was between being terrified of the ledge I was apparently standing on, my husband daring me not to move any closer, and the thought that while I was shooting my husband was the only one watching the kids. It can be a very intimidating place. The second time we went back I didn’t even bring my camera. This summer I plan to go back with my camera and someone that can take care of themselves.

What a treasure. I imagine you can visit 100 times and it would amaze you every time.

Cick for full viewing.

Fishing Boats

‘The MainStay’ is a representation of Newfoundland’s past, present and future. It was an opportunity that, unless you work in the field, you will not have many (if any) opportunities to experience for yourself. When I shot this scene I was terrified that I would miss something or screw up and not get anything at all. The opportunity was one that I hadn’t expected and therefore was also terribly unprepared for. Somewhere in the middle of the three fishing boats, the fishermen and the million or so seagulls I captured a million or so images. There is safety in numbers! Right? This would be a great scene to collage. The images were shot in 2003 offshore from Salvage, Newfoundland. The collage was created in 2008.

I considered writing a description about what the images mean to me or to our culture. But I decided to leave that up to you, to your experiences, to your thoughts.
