Must-Have Shot List.

2008 August 8

I love to get a Must-Have Shot List from my brides. There can be a lot of stress on a wedding day. However the only must-have shot list I will take is of family groupings.

Why do I not take more that a family list? It’s simple, it takes the creativity out of my work and the excitement out of your day. You need to trust your photographer that they will get lots of great photographs and since we photographers do this a lot we sort of know what to get anyways.

BUT, it is great to have a list of:
1. Family Groupings. Keep it minimal. Most brides, grooms and family’s don’t need photos of every possible combination of family member. You really just need to make sure the family is documented. After all, there are always a few family members traveling from afar to the wedding and it would great to include them in a group photo. The other thought to remember for family photo time is that you have to make sure everyone will stick around. Family photos are best kept for immediate family and a few important relatives.
Example List:

  • New Couple with Bride Parents
  • New Couple with Bride Parents and Siblings (include if there are kids to gather)
  • New Couple with Bride Parents and Grandparents
  • New Couple with Groom Parents
  • New Couple with Bride Parents and Siblings
  • New Couple with Bride Parents and Grandparents

Really that’s it. Don’t be shy, make one and talk it over with your spouse-to-be, family and family-to-be and of course the photographer!
