Evidence of the Rock
When we moved here in 2007 I asked our Realtor, “Why are all the wires above ground? It’s so ugly and distracting.” He smiled and said,
“If you want to pay to dig in this ground I’m sure the builder would comply, but basically it’s just too expensive.” I’m taking his word for it, I haven’t asked anyone else cause that answer really made sense to me.
A year later I still find it interesting to see all the wires EVERYWHERE!! They are a part of the landscape. When we had our security system installed on the west coast they told us the only way the wire could be cut was if someone dug into the ground. Here you just have to reach up!
There might be a lot of wires cutting through the landscape here in St. John’s but when the ocean is in my viewfinder nothing else seems to bother me.

Simply Snow
As I write the fog is rolling down the road, everything is wet and the snow is slowly but surely melting away. That doesn’t mean we won’t have 30cm by the time we go to bed tonight but it sure is nice to think of spring coming. This photo was taken just a few days ago when we woke to new fallen snow, A LOT of new fallen snow. While my husband toyed with the possibility of walking to work instead of snowblowing I donned my gear and went outside. By 8am I had already accomplished a photo shoot. Needless to say I’m not sure that has ever happened to me before. I had something else I wanted to post that day so I saved my snow photos till now.
Again I will talk about my weaknesses. As I not a self proclaimed scenic photographer I have always steered clear of snow…it’s a hard one to expose properly. This was really just an experiment. I’ll probably still have lots of opportunity to practice in 2008.

I think that I will have to read up on exposure and tell you what I learn.
Skyline
Something I always like about going downtown is the ever changing Harbor ‘skyline’. Very often you will see LARGE cruise ships or even larger Military boats. Sometimes there’s a yacht and it’s fun to imagine who might own it. Once in a while my dad’s fishing boat with its crew will be docked there. This past summer there was a very tall Tall Ship! Wow, that was a beautiful site (where was my camera?).
Then winter came. Not only have we not seen the sidewalk or our front lawn since November, the Harbor skyline has not changed either. Ships, mostly cargo ships, docked themselves there and there they have stayed. It’s ok, I wouldn’t want to go out to sea either right now. I’m looking forward to seeing the yacht’s and cruisers again. I’m really looking forward to spring.
